Review on ๐Ÿ”ญ Leupold RX-1400i TBR/W Riflescope with DNA Black TOLED by Edwin White

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent long range accuracy, very affordable price

I was looking for a laser range finder that can be used for film photography to be able to focus accurately in different situations. This particular model appears to be brand new, there are hardly any reviews but I decided to take a chance based on the price and features and was told Leupold is a good brand. I checked the laser range finder on a building that was very far away but visible from my position and it was 1242 meters. In fact, when I checked the distance on Google Earth, it was EXACTLY correct, with maybe a 1-2 meter difference, which could easily be attributed to the Google maps themselves and my position. So it definitely has the claimed long-range range and accuracy. For my purposes, the two most important factors I was looking for were accuracy and close range measurement. Any extra long range ability was just a bonus. IMPORTANT NOTES (but see update below): The website says the minimum range is 6 meters while the user manual says it's 5 meters. Having tested it myself I found it absolutely refuses to measure anything below 6.0 yards so the included user guide doesn't seem that accurate and the minimum range is actually 6 yards. It's not a big deal, but that extra yard made me more worried about this rangefinder than others (others averaged at least 8-9 yards), so it's a bit of a disappointment, but not a deal breaker. now I'm a little more worried about accuracy, tk. On the website and also in the instructions the numbers are different - see attached photo. The website states that the accuracy is ยฑ1 yard up to 125 yards, ยฑ2 yards up to 1000 yards and ยฑ0.5 yards over 1000 yards. (It seems strange to me that the accuracy is higher at the farthest distance). However, the manual says accuracy is ยฑ0.5 yards below 125 yards and ยฑ2 yards above 125 yards. What confuses me is that the accuracy and range specs listed on the website now weren't available a few days ago when I bought this. However, there was a downloadable version of the manual (which is no longer on the product page but has the same specs as the physical copy) which I based the purchase on. I'll be in touch with Leupold and try to find out what true accuracy is, as close range accuracy of 0.5 yards was a major factor in my decision to use this device. At the moment I'm giving it 4 stars because of this inconsistency, but if Leupold comes back and confirms the manual's accuracy, I'll still be satisfied and probably give it 5 stars. Otherwise, I'm not happy when both minimum range and accuracy aren't as good as originally advertised. --------------------------------------------------------------- - ------------------- UPDATE: Leupold emailed me back a few days later. The service desk worker says he spoke to a product line manager, who confirmed that the manual does indeed contain the correct specifications. They said they were launching an updated version of their website which caused some confusion and they will be correcting the specs on their website soon. The minimum range is still 6 meters instead of 5, but I'm happy to hear that the accuracy is as expected, so I'm giving it a 5 star rating.
