Inexpensive and perfect fit

I've had a 2004 BMW E46 325i since it was new. It was only a few months ago after driving about 75,000 miles that I noticed a few symptoms. Every time I step on the brake or take my foot off the brake, a pop from the front right, a slight stutter in the steering wheel, a faint hopping noise from the suspension when I hit a bump, and a little hesitation when I take a hard turn. After a bit of internet research I decided that the front lower control arm bushings were most likely the culprit and I was ready to try and fix it myself. I chose these Dorman jacks based on price and name and am glad I did. They look identical to the factory BMW originals, fit perfectly, brought the handling back to the previous level, comfortable and quiet. Technically the job is very simple, a small handful of screws and bolts is all you need. delete to access and remove the old ones. Physically, though, it's a different story when you're lying on your back in your driveway with a car on a jack a few inches above you. If I had an elevator the whole job would have taken 35-40 minutes from start to finish but it took me almost 3 hours due to my position. However, I saved over $400 based on what the BMW dealer told me. I've got a few miles on the new bushings now and still feel like I made the right choice. If I had to do it all over again I would buy the same Dorman bushings and go back under the BMW. Here are some tips for any home mechanic trying to do this job alone. Use a gear puller to remove the old bushings, use KY Jelly or kitchen soap to lubricate the new ones and the control arm (both are water soluble), and use a belt clip or ratchet strap to secure the new ones. .Good luck - safe working - happy driving
