My 13 pound chihuahua likes to sleep completely stretched out, and I measured the length of him and then ordered this bed to fit him. The measurements on the inside of the bolsters do fit him perfectly. The fabric is kind of a short furry-fuzzy feel. I haven't tried to wash the bed yet, I will have to update after that occurs. The sides of the bed (the bolsters) do not have any re-enforcement to them, so they just kind of flop open and don't stand up firmly. The padding in the bottom of the bed is soft but you can still push on it and feel the floor, so I had to fold up a fluffy blanket to make a padding underneath this bed. The bolsters are padded enough, but they just don't stay firmly up. I like the amount of padding in them otherwise. I like the accurate sizing and shape of the bed very much and think this is more padded than some flimsier dog beds out there. but if you need REAL cushioning for your senior dog, you are going to have to add either a folded up fluffy blanket underneath or another extra foam pad rectangle under the bed.
