If you think you have no choice, this product gives you one.

My basement toilet was leaking from the bottom. When I removed the bowl, the old flange was rotten and it was impossible to replace it with a similar one. Being a basement toilet, the bend to the main line was practically right at the entrance, and it was the lead pipe found in old houses. A typical PVC flange did not seal and went too deep. A plumber friend recommended removing the concrete and replacing the lead pipe. I see this flexible flange as a last resort. I applied pipe sealant to the outside, bent around the edge of the pipe and screwed into the cement. My plumber friend was impressed. This was in February 2021 and no leaks since. I rarely write reviews but this product is worth it.
