I had a severe water hammer problem for two years. I replaced all the valves and rearranged a few heads, and after that the system I installed 20 years ago started rattling loudly when the last sprinkler valve tripped. Once the pounding started, the only way to stop it was to turn off the water supply. Eventually the old, brittle PVC broke down and I had to do a major overhaul. After completing the repair, I installed this shock absorber to permanently solve the shock problem. I installed it just before the water line left the house through the cinder block. It was as close as I could get to the valves. It worked better than I had hoped. The sprinklers went off almost silently. Did the trick!
