The brightness of the lamps dimmed after a week and then stopped working

I bought the lamps because I wanted to use them with a plastic outer pumpkin. I noticed that after a week the lights dimmed in brightness and then they just stopped working. I put new batteries in and that's not the problem. Disappointed as they didn't even last a month and stopped working after the return window closed.
