Very nice and THICK wooden cutting board

First of all I have to say that this is a really nice piece of wood! Should last a long time and it's nice that you can turn it over and use it as a serving platter with 4 built in plates for crackers or other stuff. The extra thickness and weight of this piece keeps it from moving when you cut it. I know some people think plastic boards are better than wooden ones, but I've been using wooden boards for many years and have never had the slightest problem with them. I just wipe them down after use and apply a little oil occasionally, the food juices don't seem to get absorbed until you let them sit on the board for hours. I also think wood is easier to work with on the edges of your knives. However, it requires a little more caution. If you (or the person you're gifting this to) like to throw everything in the dishwasher and be done with it then this probably isn't for you, get a plastic bottle instead. Avoid glass cutting boards, they can dull knives very quickly. This is great if you're a chef who loves the look of wood in the kitchen and doesn't mind the extra maintenance. It will also help you keep your knives sharp longer than a plastic board. I wouldn't use anything other than a wooden board with an expensive, high quality knife.
