Absolutely necessary for above ground pools. We have a 24’x52” intex. Over night the water temp drops 6° or more. With the 1600 series cover the temp stayed exactly the same. We put it on right after getting out and let the the sun warm the pool for the last hour of daylight and it just works. This is the best solar cover. Granted this is the only one I’ve ever bought. But I can tell you it was quite chilly in the pool for the temps here in the Midwest. And this cover made the water so much warmer! It is perfect for our pool. I’d tell anyone to invest in one of these bc it really does heat your pool. My husband was skeptical at first, but he even says we need to keep it on constantly to heat the water. It’s a great product! I hope it lasts for years to come!

This is overall a good cover but has its issues. The ability to warm the pool is good with this cover but won’t make it that much hotter. Even on our cooler summer nights it wouldn’t make up for the lack of night temperatures. But would make it warmer than without one so if you need slight warming go for it but Ohio summer in the valleys with shorter sun periods you’re not going to get it. Instructions said the wrinkles would mostly smooth out after a few days. Did not. Also said to cut the cover to fit inside the pool. I think much better to leave about 2 inches to lap up on the sides. This will prevent the pool water from seeping on top. In the video I have used the trimmings to do that. But such a hassle.Also when I cut another one I’ll be more careful to cut around the ladder.

Used it for 2-3 weeks, during this time we only took it off pool 1 time due to so much rainfall . I'm glad we sprung the little extra for the thicker cover. Our pool has maintained a lovely 82-85 F since the sun started shining, and it's only the beginning of June in Michigan. We have had many solar covers and even have a reel. This is the first time trying the circles. It’s a nice weight so should be easier to take out. However, unfortunately they are not cut true to size. Had I known this I would have ordered 15 inch and saved $60. One fits better than the other one. We got about an inch of rain last night. The pool temp dropped 3 degrees; from 86 to 83. I live in Massachusetts and I have a heated 24’ round pool. The 10-12 mil would have dropped 5-8 degrees. There is only one layer, so if (like me) you have a cover that separated and allowed algae to grow between the layers, then you will be very happy with this. This has raised the temperature of our above ground pool by 5-10 degrees, depending on how sunny it is. We get a good amount of afternoon sun.As far as durability, we have used it for a summer and it shows no signs of wear. It’s very thick plastic but I can easily get it on/off the pool myself by folding it.
