I've only had experience with cheap U-locks on an old bike. I now have a more expensive (better?) bike that needs protection if left unattended on errands. Haven't tried other good quality U-locks but this one seems secure and the key travel is very smooth. I read too many reviews about kryptonite lock blocking and decided to get something better. This lock is lighter than a comparable high security kryptonite lock, but feels heavy. The weight on the specs is one thing, but the reality is another - that heaviness. Luckily, it comes with a mount that allows you to carry the lock just about anywhere on your bike. I do not recommend wearing it in a waist holster. It must be carried on the bike or in a bag on the way to work. The better the lock, the longer it will take a thief to bypass it. Invest in a good lock. It's expensive, but it depends on how much you've spent on your bike or if you can afford to lose your work tool (bike) - even if it's cheap.
