Review on Custom 4-Pin Trailer Wiring Harness for Subaru Impreza Hatchback by CURT (56111) - Vehicle-Side Solution by Hesham Peltier

not sure if this is the best place for it

I installed this on a 2010 Subaru Impreza 2.5I 5 door. I watched this YouTube video before installing - (.) and I think it helped. The instructions weren't very helpful, but with this video it wasn't a problem. As others have said, the hardest part is connecting the black wire to the power supply. I used the same trick as the other reviewer. If you remove the rear spare wheel, there are 2 rubber plugs at the bottom. Pull one out and you'll see a sheet metal that sits over the muffler. I punched a hole in the center of the sheet, not sure if this is the best place for it. You can punch a hole in the bottom left corner (I know it's a round hole), this will be near where the black wire from the driver's side tail light comes from. I think this will minimize the effect of muffler heat. I've tried to keep the black wire away from the muffler so it doesn't touch it and melt it, but you could wrap it in some sort of protective thermal tape like aluminum tape or something. Also make a hole in this rubber stopper and pass the wire through it. I routed the cable through the cab from the driver's side. You can easily let it work under the molding. I stuck it under the carpet and fished out where the seat belt connects to the bottom of the frame. Here's a cut in the carpet. I then unbolted the driver's seat bracket at the rear near the center console. I made a small cut in the carpet under the plastic cover where the screw attaches the seat bracket to the car. I used a wire hanger to fish the wire back out from under the carpet and lift it to the center console. I cut the white wire with the yellow stripe and connected the fuse holder and everything together with nuts. Seems to work well and I thought it would be easier and safer than slipping it under the car and into the engine bay. I didn't have a lift, only ramps for this setup, but if you have a lift and can stand under the car it might be easier to run it under the car, I really don't know. The whole installation took about 4 hours but I did it at my parents house and they didn't have all the tools that I have access to. The budget is about 20 minutes for the light wiring and about 2-3 hours for the installation of the power cable. In general I am satisfied with the set, it turned out well.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • The list will be long.
