Took just over 1 month

I had a whole house water filtration system installed just over a month ago . He used this filter for the initial install and gave me a replacement. The filter says it should be replaced every 6 months. My plumber figured this should take 10 months as the 6 month estimate is based on the average water usage of a family of 4 and I live alone. After about three weeks I notice black deposits in my toilets and when I fill my pets' water bowls. I had to drain the water to get rid of the sediment. Then, a few weeks later, I woke up with virtually no water pressure. After talking to a few neighbors about having water pressure, I decided to test the filter on my new system. The water in the filter tank was pitch black. It was filled with sediment from the filter, and the filter itself was covered with reddish slime. I threw out the filter and cleaned everything which wasn't easy as carbon likes to stick to things. I replaced it with a spare filter and resealed everything. Now my water pressure is back to normal. I'd like to think that maybe I had a bad filter and that a new one would work better, but I doubt it. If I see carbon residue in my water again, that's it. I will never use these filters again.

Pros
  • Less than 1 micron filter - the smaller the micron the more particles or contaminants the whole house filter removes
Cons
  • No automatic
