I have cut several mats with this tool and I find it accurate, easy to use and inexpensive. The beveled cuts are really accurate and look professional with careful use. The bevel cutter itself runs along the unit and slides down the bevels without much effort and there is a very well calibrated parallel ruler to hold the mat in place for the bevel cut. (One caveat: you should probably stick with double-layer mats, although it's possible to achieve a layered look that's wider on the outside of the inside with double-layer mats). The unit also comes with a blade for cutting large matte sheets (which are typically 32" x 40" and fit into the cutter that uses the blade as a guide). While you can get beveled pre-cut mats at art stores, I use a Canon PRO-10 photo printer, I take my own digital photos, so I've found that the sizes of the printed photos don't usually match the sizes of the pre-mats, so I need a tool for both the bevels, which are suitable for paintings, and the mats, which are cut to fit in art store frames. The professional looking beveled mount comes with exhibition quality prints and I get it with this cutter. The unit comes with extra blades and a DVD with very helpful how-to videos, although there are videos on the Logan website too. along with additional material. Calculating the size of bevel cuts is difficult and Logan does a good job of demonstrating how to measure and calculate cuts. While Logan sells more complex cutters, for me as a hobbyist this particular product represents very good value for money.
