Perfect for adding flashing rear lights to cycling shoes as shown in the photo. A recent study showed that such lights are the most visible to the driver and significantly increase safety. Here's how: Cut the "ribbon" portion of the elastic, leaving the beveled elastic. Remove the small screw holding the rubber, buy a slightly longer one (metric thread, countersunk). Remove the insole from your shoes. Drill a hole in the bottom of the boot big enough for a screw. Insert screw from inside. Use a hacksaw to cut it long enough to reach the edge of the beveled rubber. Attach the beveled rubber to the screw so that the "thick" part faces the bottom of the shoe (this corrects the curvature at the back of the shoe). Screw the lantern onto the screw. Reinsert the insole. Voila - you are now a VERY safe biker!
