FOLLOW-UP - 2 years later: Well it's been 2 years so I think that's all we can expect from our devices these days. I will buy it again just because it's that great and it REALLY keeps you warm. I think the little heating mechanism inside has finally failed. I wish it took longer, but it is! ----------- ----------------------- Original Rating: No kidding, this is the best mug warmer ever! The chord is black and about 4 feet long. The on/off switch is located on the chord, just a few inches from the base. I've read other people's reviews about the bottom getting a little warm. Although I didn't notice it myself, I had some good sandstone coasters on my desk, so I put them on top of one of them, just in case. By the way, that's perfect. You can buy a set from Bed Bath and Beyond if you're concerned about the potential heat of a cup holder on your desk. In any case, this warmer keeps your coffee or tea hot! The lower the liquid level in your cup, the hotter it gets, so be careful. Now I can study for a long time without wasting precious coffee and tea! :)
