I've been using Big Berkey for a year and a half now and I love it. It was more mule at first, but I've tried Brita/Pur/Clear2O/fridge filters and none of them impressed me. The filters were expensive and reportedly needed to be changed often, and the water didn't even taste that good. Since my water usage calculation indicated that this Berkey kit should last for years, I went with this. A few weeks later I bought a glass sight tube and it's a lot easier to see the water level in the tank than lifting the top half and looking down the Berkey. While I haven't done any scientific testing, my taste tests between draft and filtered beer definitely back Berkey. I have a constant reminder on my calendar to take it apart and clean it with soap and water once a month and I've had no problems with water or rust. Is this my favorite job? Absolutely not, but taking the time to filter your water cleanly and easily over the next month is definitely worth it. Tip: The filtration has slowed down waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarins and after approx. filter. I used a rubber washer on the black filters to "refill" them (like you do on the first build) and again the filtering was fast and amazing! I now refill them during my monthly cleaning and haven't had any issues since.
