Great wide angle lens for DX cameras

I recently bought this lens to fit my Nikon D5100 16.2MP CMOS Nikkor Zoom 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 DSLR AF-S DX To put VR and see if I might want that lens or the Tokina AT-X116PRDXN AT-X PRO DX 11-16mm Ultra Wide Angle Lens for Nikon. I'll start by saying both lenses are great and I haven't had any image quality issues with either. I'm not a big photographer or gear reviewer, but I'll talk about what I liked and didn't like about each lens, which led me to decide which ones to keep. is that the autofocus works on the d5100. I wasn't sure how big the problem would be with a wide angle lens. It turned out to be handy, but focusing on something at 11mm is very easy and I'm very busy. Nikon does have a larger zoom range of 10-24 instead of 11-16, but I don't lose much since I already have a Nikon 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR ED Nikkor lens for Nikon -DSLRs have. Tokina - This lens is a bit heavier and appears to be made from more durable materials. It also has a constant aperture of 2.8 which, while I won't be using it all the time, is nice to have. The Tokina has a much better focus ring and hasn't given me any problems. Tokina is also about $200 cheaper. In the end I chose Tokina because nothing about Nikon made me think it was worth more money. I'm not saying that the price is too high, maybe Tokina is underestimated. If they were the same price it would really be a toss. If you already have a camera with built-in autofocus, I would definitely go for the Tokina. It's a great, fun lens, although I ended up sending it back.

Pros
  • electronics
Cons

This is the worst lens I've used since the 70's!
