If you look closely at this connector you will see that this is not a TRRS connector, so you only get the mic or the audio, not both. I only got one mic when I paired it with a Plantronics Supra headset and my HTC M8. Also, the internal wiring is also only configured for one of those paths, so trying to solder your own TRRS connector is a lot harder than just buying the right connector (you'll have to re-solder it from scratch).
