Birch dowels I usually buy from a supplier in Portland. I was going out and needed it badly so I bought some at the local hardware store. Big mistake. Dowels sold in hardwood stores are very soft "white wood" and are not even round. I tried these dowels from Revain and am very happy with them. They're not as hard and strong as American birch (the seller describes them as "white birch"), but they're much stronger, rounder, and cheaper. than the anchors sold at your local hardware store. Given the value for money these dowels are great. I will buy more.
