Review on πŸ“· Alpine HCE-RCAM-WRA Spare Tire Rear-View HDR Camera 2007-2008 Jeep Wrangler by Jeremy Adams

Excellent guide, good image quality, acceptable equipment.

I installed this in my 2014 four door Jeep Wrangler JK Unlimited Rubicon. To fit behind the stock Rubicon wheel, I had to bend the strut a bit. It was surprising to have about 10 feet of extra cable, and a little disappointing considering the device is being marketed as Jeep JK specific. It integrated well with my main Kenwood unit using the video adapter that came with it. There were no instructions in the box, but Alpine's website has very detailed instructions showing where to run the cable and how to run the cable around the subwoofer and behind the panels. tie to a white wire with a gray stripe, not a gray wire with a white stripe. Do yourself a favor and connect on the floor near the seat, not under the glove box. I've seen people complain about the video quality, but in my opinion the video is as good as composite video can get. Even in relative darkness, I can easily see the detail needed for parking. I recommend using some RTV silicone to seal the rubber grommet of the cable after you connect the rear camera through the tailgate. If it's important to you, consider buying seat belt webbing or foam. In addition, it comes with everything you need to install this product on a secondary main unit with a composite video input. After working for a week I can't believe I waited almost six years to get it done. It took about an hour to set up, but it was worth it.
