I used to drink whey protein and pre-workout powder and all that stuff and actually after a lot of bodybuilding I realized that whey protein is the trick and the best too before the training. Whey absorbs so quickly that you hardly get any of it into your body, it can really be 20-30% of what you ingest and the rest comes out with your morning constitution after coffee. This means if you consume 200 grams you can get 40-60 grams and the rest will come out as gas and a greasy brown. No thank you! With casein you get 80-90% of what you consume and it is very slow digesting which means the best time to take it is right before bed. When you sleep, your metabolism slows, helping you digest more casein, resulting in less waste, no greasy browns or bloating later, and causes your body to use protein instead of using large muscle groups. That means you SAVE YOUR PROFITS! 10 years ago I weighed 130 pounds and had a goal of gaining 100 pounds of muscle mass. All that whey and all and I still had pasta hands after following Arnold's Modern Bodybuilding Guide training plan and diet for two years. It wasn't until I switched from whey to casein that I really gained weight. and done! At the same 12% body fat I had when I was 130 pounds, I now weigh 247 pounds. That's all muscle building! I gained 100 pounds of muscle mass in my 3rd year. It wasn't until this summer that I decided it was time to see how far I could go and in the last 2 months I've gained another 17 pounds to the 247 I weigh today and 11% body fat. Same diet, same exercise, just increased casein intake. I get ON Gold Standard because it tastes the best of all the brands, and if I forget to order more I can just pick it up at my local GNC or Vitamin Shoppe. Chocolate or strawberry flavor is amazing! There is no chalkiness and it mixes well with cold milk even without the metal ball in the shaker. So forget whey, casein gets in the way!
