Dehumidifier Not bad, but I had to replace the dietary supplement fan

Worked well. It appeared that about a tank (500ml) of moisture per week left the air. The problem is I only had it for 3 months before the fan with the "bad ball bearing noise" showed up. It used to be not a low whisper, now it crunched, rattled and very loudly. Since it was too late to return it, I disassembled it. I found the components to be fairly high quality with a nice double sided aluminum heatsink, but it looks like they found the cheapest fan they could find. The "PowerYear" fan that came with the kit is stamped 2020.01 edition, apparently out of service, and apparently very, very cheap. So I took out this fan and replaced the Noctua NF-A8; I modified the connector to match the 2-pin connector that the PowerYear fan uses. Now the dehumidifier runs almost silently, I can still feel the air movement at the top. RPMs are a bit lower at 2200cfm than 3000cfm but I'll have to see if that makes a difference in performance over the next few weeks. At least now I don't have to worry about the fan failing. The fan can actually last a lot longer than the rest of the components. Please note that I don't expect a manufacturer to include a Noctua fan that is much more expensive than the end result. However, I expect the manufacturer to spend pennies more for a better fan as this is key to a dehumidifier's performance. It seems that the fan picked up on this one just extends past the return window (which isn't cool). Let's hope the rest of the decent-looking components last longer.

Pros
  • , understandable even for the old
Cons
  • Some little things
