Review on πŸ”˜ Halo Clear Keyboard Switches by Massdrop by Josh Chenier

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Smooth silent bliss.

I've been using mechanical keyboards for quite some time. Starting with a typical mid-range gaming board with Cherry MX dongles. While Cherry MX adheres to high quality standards, that doesn't mean others don't. I've used Halo True Switches (Kaihua) in the past and wanted to try them out on a new custom mech for work. They have nice subtle tactile feedback and don't click annoyingly like cherry blues. When lubricated and properly maintained, these wrenches are a pleasure to use. The main difference between True and Clear is the weight of the nib, and it's actually a small difference. They have a fully transparent switch body. So if your keyboard or circuit board supports RGB or per-key backlighting, they'll glow beautifully, not just have a glowing silhouette like an opaque switch. These switches are 3 pins so they don't have two extra pins for PCB mount applications. It just helps maintain proper alignment when soldering etc. Since this was for a hot-swap build, it didn't matter. Coming off a mid/low tier mech and looking down the r/MK rabbit hole, they won't disappoint.
