Review on πŸšͺ Sugatsune ML80BLK: Magnetic Touch Latch for Medium Doors in Black - Convenient Access Solution by Jacob Seymour

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Better than the bestseller

This latch has been criticized in some reviews for not having enough holding power, but it works well for light applications. I use two (one above, one below) on a custom made approximately 2ft x 4ft warehouse door and she deftly slides the door out when needed and holds it in place when needed. In this application I have previously used the most common magnetic touch latch (using a round plunger) used, which is sold in all major hardware stores and even a high end woodworking retail store, and it was unreliable for both locking action and holding power Two metal "magnetic transmission fittings" (not sure what to call them - on either side of the internal magnet on the piston) dislodged and moved away from the magnet, reducing their holding power on the metal striker plate te greatly decreased. In contrast, this rectangular bar looks and feels premium. Runs smoothly, no loose parts and works as intended, at least so far. A big improvement over the very very cheap part that replaced it for not much more money. I took off a star for the tedious set up/alignment that comes with all magnetic clasps and could really use some innovation.

Pros
  • Magnetic force 3.5 lbs. Pop out 9/64" (3.5mm)
Cons
  • Unbelievable price
