Review on 🚀 Skyjacker 7240 Steering Stabilizer Dual Kit: Enhance Steering Control and Stability by Justin Bowen

Trucks with leaf springs don't count

I bought this steering stabilizer for my 1992 F350. Although this product is a suitable part for my truck (according to Skyjacker), after reading the instructions I quickly realized that my truck was an afterthought. Skyjacker calls this kit "universal". I assume when it comes to welding is every kit universal? Read the instructions, Step #2: You will be prompted to use the supplied U-bolt to attach the bracket to the frame, but the U-bolt will not work on a 1992-96 F350 and either drilling holes in the frame or welding may be required. After completing step 7, you will be advised that if you are installing on a truck with a lift height of 6 inches or more, you will need to weld the bracket even deeper than step 2. So if you already welded them on as indicated in step 2 and you have a 6" or larger truck lift, you will be very upset when you read what follows after step 7. Since I have a 6" truck lift kit, I went ahead and cleaned the frame rail and pressed the mount bracket against the frame. Once it was in the right position and ready to weld, I noticed something else was wrong. When the bracket is welded to the frame, there is little space between the bracket and leaf spring on the passenger side. Looks good when clamped (or welded) but once you have the stabilizer bars and their bushings installed you will find that the threaded shanks of the stabilizer bar will contact the leaf spring at the slightest bump. And that's on a truck with 6" lift Threaded shafts stand still closer to the leaf springs unless the truck is equipped with a lift. Consistently very poor design. Even when installed correctly, the angles of the anti-roll bars are very poor. If your truck (F150 and Bronco) has coil springs you shouldn't have the problem just described. But if you own a 1992-96 F350 get ready to have some fun. You're better off just getting the sway bars and your own Make brackets, or just get a set of steering stabilizers and fit them as standard. Oh yes, if you really want to have fun, call Skyjacker customer service. They act like you're the first person with a problem. Call several times and you get the same answer each time Regardless, search the internet for pictures of any ford with leaf springs and a properly installed one rten Skyjacker double anti-roll bar steering. You won't find one for a reason. Bad kit!
