This laser level is great for what I bought it for which is finding highlights on a concrete floor indoors. When I found that it has an outdoor mode, I tried it outdoors. If you don't wait until dusk or dark, you won't see the laser line. The kit did not include a laser detector that would have made it usable. I don't see any difference in outdoor mode, I didn't notice any change in laser intensity. I'd recommend it for indoor use where you can control the ambient light, but if you're hoping to use it outdoors as well, look for a model with a detector.
