I use this to determine if the socket is plugged in properly and as another safety device along with my non-contact voltage sensor. I ran into a real problem yesterday. Required for work on the drain/dishwasher drain under the sink. I had to remove the dishwasher cord because the new dishwasher has a plug. Anyway, the removal worked. Circuit breaker is off, check if the line is dead. Did my job and tested the plug with a socket tester after turning on the switch. Generally no information. Checked with a voltmeter - nothing. Connected to recycling. ran!? Every time I used this socket tester, it told me what I needed to know.
