We got this pet door so our cats have a separate room/food from our new puppy. I have bought similar gates in the past but needed a different size for a different room. It was attractive because of the adjustable length and small pet door. However, this didn't work for a number of reasons: - As mentioned in other comments, the pet door was larger than expected. It will be some time before our pup is big enough not to crawl through. We were able to do the repair and downsize ourselves, but for this gate it wasn't worth it due to other issues. The door is very thin and only opens in one direction. For a room that you will be entering on a daily basis, this is quite impractical. It also didn't fit together properly, causing it to be slightly ajar even with the latch. The human door latch was also difficult to operate. Even if you are in a hurry or carrying something, you need to slide both sides up at the same time. All goals seemed pretty weak. Sure, we didn't expect there to be something super high quality at such a low price, but we also didn't expect it to break or be torn apart easily (even when mounted on a wall). I liked it. adjustable aspect of this product and it was pretty easy to put together. We didn't build it into the wall just because we knew we wouldn't keep it because of other issues. Pet gates are a great idea in theory, just wish they worked better in practice.
