I have HDMI cables for our TVs and some newer Chromecast devices that run through my wall while plugging directly into the HDMI port on the back of the TV to Getting power from the USB port could be an issue - the Chromcast device I was trying to use couldn't get enough power from our TV's USB port, so it had to be plugged into the wall. Since there was no outlet behind the TV I had to use an HDMI cable that ran through the wall to connect it to the Chromecast and then to the power supply - this adapter allowed me to use my existing HDMI cable and was very easy to connect. So if you try to do something like this, this will help.
