Although socks are considered one of the most boring Christmas gifts, I bought my son two pairs of these Sockwell socks and they were a huge hit. He was looking for supportive calf socks and ordered another brand which he would rate as just about okay. In the meantime, on the recommendation of a friend, I have tried the women's sockwells myself while hiking (they are good, especially for long walks). So when my son casually remarked that he needed good compression stockings, I immediately went to Sockwells. He says they're the best socks he's ever owned. The compression is just right - firm but not like compression sleeves and without choking at the top edge. By the way, I think the "shadow box" in the title refers to the very fine pattern in the knit, from the ankle area to the toe, which gives an understated style to this all-black sock.
