The future we've been promised

Many years ago I worked as an assistant editor on a Hollywood film Medium budget film. Since digital non-linear editing was still something new, our studio assigned a technician to the show who answered our many questions and generally made us happy. One day our technician made a comment: As he swapped out removable 100GB blocks in our custom-built disk tower (these blocks were the size of a small watermelon and weighed about 20 pounds each!), he said that someday - in the *future* - we could* have 1TB * Store drives in the palm of our hands and that they are *the size of credit cards*. The eXtreme I'm currently holding is actually 2TB and its read/write speeds are unrealistic. This futuristic object plugs into the console like a jack and communicates at speeds that systems under $5,000 cannot match. I am amazed by its usefulness and have no complaints about its use. This is a device from the future that we all were promised that it will come in handy in our own future too... and can hold *1TB* drives in the palm of your hand, and they're *credit card sized*.
