Review on Acxico Pixie DIY Shortwave Radio Kit - 7.023MHz 40M CW Receiver Transmitter with Buzzer LED Transceiver by Kristen Lopez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Fun little kit and the finished product really works

Quick and easy assembly for anyone experienced in soldering components onto a PCB. This is a "superpixie" variant with a spot effect and a beautiful lucite body. When you're done, you can connect with the baby (on CW). reservations? It's not just a QRP; this is QRPp. Given the state of the solar cycle, making such low-power contacts is not easy. Yes, but you need a good antenna. In addition, the receiving part is of course a direct conversion receiver. Don't expect the audio to be loud. However, I have no problem copying many channels. This little thing is crystal controlled, so of course you're limited to one frequency. The crystals that come with most of them seem to be for the lower end of the CW sub-band so make sure you have the right to operate on that band. After all, there are no instructions, not even a URL for a set of instructions. But good building instructions are easy to find with Google. I was smitten with my super pixie, was immediately spotted on RBN and continued to make some connections. Worth its meager price.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • I vaguely remember
