Review on GUAIMI Motorcycle Anti-Theft Helmet Lock for Kawasaki Ninja 650 & Z 650 (2017-2020): Secure Your Helmet with Ease by Vangele Carson

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Nice little lock (revised)

This thing isn't bulletproof, has no LEDs, can't be integrated into a smart bike, or respond to voice commands, is coming not with a questionably useful app and does NOT make coffee. It also opens with a key, technology thousands of years old. But this cheap little bug attaches the helmet to the bike, which is why it's there. I thought there were right and left versions of this, but it may have been another similar rebrand. Got the black one as the colors don't seem to match and I don't want to draw attention to the helmet lock on my black 2020 Z650. It integrates beautifully, is easy to install and easy to use. I have a Sidici Strada II which has a slightly shorter D-ring strap but works great. I also have a 14" round Delkevic exhaust that juts out near the passenger footpeg, but I've never had to worry about the helmet hitting the exhaust tip. As for the finish of the stuff, I didn't even bother to look closely, but I didn't notice anything that stood out ($20!) The black is a very matte finish, and all the silver is polished. Can't comment on corrosion, but I'll definitely lubricate lightly. Ride in the rain and keep it in the garage. I'm not expecting us to use some fancy corrosion resistant alloys here. The little U-piece that holds the D-rings in place has noticeable play, but I never hear that. rattle. They play but that means it wants to close due to gravity when I put my helmet on it. When it snaps it sometimes makes a false positive "click" which simply means I've learned to snap it harder than seems necessary. Even if it doesn't lock, the helmet won't fall off when parked. I didn't give a star because the tolerances are a bit small. ose with a locking mechanism as described and because it's not the most durable. No one is going to rip or break it by hand, however, and anyone who REALLY wants your helmet will get it no matter what lock you get. It's solid enough, gets the job done, and doesn't look out of place. A must if you don't want to take your helmet with you or just want to carry it loose on your bike. REVISION: I've used this little guy maybe 10 times in total. So today I drive into my dental office so cool, take off my helmet and look around so no one sees how I'm trying so hard to be cool, and then I go lock my helmet. I put the key in. I turn the key. RING! U-shaped gates going through D-rings appear. I don't mean it fell out, but this thing jumped up as usual and just came out and made a "ping" sound and twirled in the air before falling to the ground. I froze, trying to figure out what the hell just happened. Then I started laughing because it was so dramatic and unexpected and just plain funny that I just went nuts! It turned out that the pin on which the U-shaped bolt rotates moved so far out of the hole that only the fastening end was holding the bolt. There's a pretty stiff spring in there pulling it, so when I turned the key to loosen it it opened fine but kept working because the pin wasn't holding it in place. I just put it back and put the pen back in. I didn't have time to realize that more is needed, but it's quite sad. I don't know if it's defective and haven't contacted them yet, but WARNING! I will update this and adjust the stars as needed after this experience. I hit one (4 out of 3) from literally ONLY using this thing and it happened. It can be a single bad block.
