Review on XR840091 Heater Control Lincoln Thunderbird Replacement Parts by Craig Galante

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Stuck after 9 months

INITIAL REVIEW: Initially it was 5 stars. The old one was leaking a little so I replaced it with this one which works and doesn't leak. It seems very durable so I expect it to last a long time but the real test will be whether it will still work in 5-10 years. There is a video on YouTube about how to change this from the top and I did it because I find it hard to get under. To the video, I would add using a turkey attachment and a wet/dry vacuum to suck as much coolant out of the overflow tank as possible without making a mess. I lost very little coolant and the mess was minimal. I would recommend using new coolant to refill as damaging the heater core is the last thing you want to do. UPDATED RATING: up to 1 star. Didn't last the 5 years I was hoping for. In fact, it didn't last more than 1 year. After 9 months the valve is sticking and the system is getting hot when it should be cold and vice versa. When I tap on the valve, it disengages, which is how I know it's stuck in the first place. Now I recommend NOT buying this one and spending money on a better one as changing it is not easy.
