Review on 📏 Gowoops VL53L0X ToF Laser Ranging Sensor Breakout - Accurate 940nm Laser Distance Measurement I2C Module by Anthony Cornelius

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works well/something like Rant

This is a pretty decent VL53L0X board and the level offset is nice compared to previous breakouts for this particular chipset/family (don't worry about logic level 2.7V <- > 3.3V). Bought about four as I was able to expedite delivery through Prime and they all worked and gave good readings. At least one other review posted here says it works with the Adafruit VL53L0X library, and I'm pretty sure it does (I've been working on another embedded system and provided my own), but please understand for not getting paid for Adafruit. So if you just buy this (or some other generic board) and then use Adafruit's (or Sparkfun or Pololu's) libraries, you're not really contributing to a development ecosystem that is self-sustaining in the long run. Usually a new chip/SOC is brought to the masses by companies like Adafruit, Sparkfun or Pololu who invest their people, time and money to figure out how to connect to it and then open this board with one they have written -Sell source library. Within a few months generic knockoff boards will be appearing on Revain and Ebay, often exact clones of circuit boards made by Adafruit (this one is a bit different, but I've literally seen boards that say Adafruit, but obviously not). t from Adafruit) and they will lower the price of Adafruit because they don't have to invest in manufacturing, they just take it and make it themselves. Please keep in mind that I don't work for any of these companies, but I am concerned that at some point we will have to go back to the Middle Ages when these companies have to close due to lack of support. I know everyone's financial situation is different and I'm not saying I stand by it, but if you can save some extra money by purchasing a genuine original board from Sparkfun, Adafruit, or elsewhere, the community will help as a whole. .

Pros
  • Operating voltage: 2.6-5.5V
Cons
  • Doubtful
