Review on Fluval C Series Power Filter: 🐠 Enhanced Clip-On Aquarium Filter for Optimal Performance by Robert Petrig

Love the modular sections and easy cleaning

I was looking for a filter that would restart after a power outage. My last filter died as soon as the power went out and almost burned out after a power outage in the middle of the night. It will NOT drain when the power is off unless the water level drops sharply. That's good news/bad news for cleaning. If the water doesn't drain, it means it's very difficult for the filter to get out of the tank unless you drain the water first. But it's not a problem if you can remove the siphon tube before lifting the filter (I had another filter where the siphon tube couldn't be reached until the filter was lifted. There was about six pounds of water left in it. Major PETA.) I like systems where you don't throw away/replace the entire filter media structure every time. This is wasteful, expensive, and kills a lot of the good bacteria that has built up. It consists of three parts, so the sponge filter, charcoal bag and ceramic parts that are filled with all the good bacteria can be rinsed/cleaned separately. I had a nitrate/algae spike that made my goldfish tank look like a Black Lagoon. . This filter filtered out so much green that I was able to rinse the filter from the back, now the water is clear, the numbers are excellent and the fish are happy. The only problem is that I have two 50 gallon tanks. , and the filter with the largest size (C4). The company makes a siphon tube extension, but it doesn't come with a filter designed for large tanks. So my siphon tube ends up ten inches above the bottom of the tank, which is inefficient for water circulation. And I can't find a good place to GET any of the expansions. I don't find this filter too loud; I have two airstones that mask the noise of the filter pretty well.

Pros
  • Activated carbon chemistry effectively removes toxins
Cons
  • Minor issues
