Knowing how cold it is
The fridge in our newly bought house had nondescript digital controls (0-9) for adjusting the freezer and fridge cooling levels. Since we couldn't really know how cold it was, we had issues with ice cream melting and soft serve served accidentally and veggies and insulin freezing or not being kept cool enough to stay fresh. That's how it was before you bought a large dial thermometer! Now we know and control again.
