It's better than what you'd expect from an $18 backpack, but you don't get the $80 features. I've been using this bag on my daily subway rides for about a month and while I'm happy with it, I know it probably won't last forever, which is fine with me. I've never ridden the subway so I just wanted to know if I'm comfortable carrying a backpack or if I need to invest in a better shoulder bag and for that this fits the bill. The woman is quite petite, 5'2" and petite all round, so I didn't want to feel like I was thrown back to my high school days with a backpack that made me look like a surrogate turtle stomping down the street. Me wanted something quite professional, thin and with something, not just another black backpack. And of course I didn't want to spend much for a test run. This bag in blue color fits all parameters. It's a very nice neutral blue, like jeans, so it goes with almost everything. Dirt and grime isn't showing yet which is nice. The zippers are of a fairly high quality; I haven't had any issues with them sticking or sticking. The fabric looks like high quality nylon and is fairly water repellent. I wouldn't call it waterproof and I wouldn't trust my computer there in a heavy downpour without an umbrella or under a jacket, but I would in a drizzle n or light rain everything stayed dry inside. Cheap nylon lining. Point. Will break over time. But it's beautifully designed, with a built-in front pocket big enough for a large smartphone, car keys, subway map, lip balm, and a few other small items without a hitch. It's a deep pocket with a smaller "shelf" pocket that's handy for keeping small items within reach. The main compartment is more spacious than you might think, even with a 15" laptop inside. The laptop compartment is not very soft, almost not soft at all, but spacious. There are also two smaller pockets on the front of the main compartment, big enough for cell phone, pens and co. And then a small umbrella, Tupperware dishes, a large bottle of water and a large wallet will easily fit down a deep well, even with a laptop in this. I can also easily stuff a collapsible raincoat inside, although it's starting to look a little stuffed at this point. Don't be under the illusion that this thing magically distributes the weight or anything. It will not. You carry your burden on your shoulders. It's not well padded, it's not super breathable. Whether you are looking for a bag that accompanies you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, across the country or around the world, waterproof and super protective for all your belongings, lies almost weightlessly on your back and will have 7,000 Pockets for all your stuff. small differences, it's not. My husband is appalled by this bag because his backpack has these 7000 special pockets for little things and he can no longer imagine life without this organization. And maybe it will be in my "eternal pocket". But for a cheap backpack that can be used occasionally, or for the occasional commuter, or someone who just wants to use the backpack as a work bag and not a more traditional crossbody, this is a great buy.
