Review on 🐢 Herm Sprenger 2.25 Chrome Prong Collar Small - Spike & Pinch for Optimal Control by Byron Forman

Gives the dog a message in dog language like a mother would.

This collar is well made. The construction is good; The teeth are rounded and smooth. This type of collar is designed to mimic the sentiment of a female dog reminding her pup to "behave". When I hurt my hand, he reminded one of my more excited, enthusiastic dogs not to pull the leash - never - because when she pulled she got better and I didn't have to scold or bribe or do anything else. She became very anxious to run forward or put pressure on my arm. YES, the training could have taught her to always walk on a leash (even when agitated) but gently training her like her mom would do helped. Different dogs, like different people, are better at learning some methods than others. As intimidating as this may sound to nervous souls, this is EXACTLY like a dog mom's gentle correction and very acceptable dog information and really helps some dogs learn. You use just enough links to keep the collar snug around your neck, don't pull on the leash unless you have a reason or message, pay attention to what you and your dog are doing, and let yours NEVER pull the dog on the leash when buckled up to this collar. I highly recommend using this collar for some dogs where other methods are not suitable. Each person has their own learning styles and needs at different stages of learning. It was just what we needed at that special moment. (The other option was not to take that particular dog until my hand was fully healed - that would have made us both miserable.) We won't always use it - it's a tool with a purpose, and I see that we do might not need it anymore - because he gave her a message in "dog language". == Comment added on December 1st, 2015 ==After a few weeks of allowing her to correct herself with a spiked collar and some extra attention and verbal attention directing her to where she needs to be at a certain time, she seems to have learned to be careful with my hand. We go out without the spiked collar and she is still MUCH more attentive and aware of my needs (knows not to pull on her injured arm, not push me, look me in the face for confirmation before changing direction or accelerating). The spiked collar was an effective, positive tool, and we may not need it again. Our relationship is as good as ever, that is, excellent! I would like to share this video of a professional dog trainer with experience using a prong collar with an indication of when it might be appropriate and inappropriate: <https://leerburg.com/flix/player.php/1085/Question_and_Answer_on_Prong_Collars>

Pros
  • Ultra Plus Design: This collar has a center plate that places the links on the dog's neck for even pressure.
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
