I bought several purple 2GB, 3GB and 4GB drives. All are out of warranty. They just can't handle the constant CCTV footage. Luckily I had most of the replacement parts under warranty, a couple of times I didn't fix the error lights in time, and by the time I found out the errors were hard drive related the warranty had just expired. I do not recommend purple discs. I recommend buying enterprise drives for about 40% more. Purple drives are rated at 180TB per year. Enterprise drives are rated to write in excess of 500TB per year and typically come with a 5-year warranty instead of a 3-year warranty. Using purple drives you can support up to 2 cameras per drive at 5MP per camera and stay within the 180TB limit per year. Now that 4K (8MP) cameras are just over $140 each, one purple drive per camera is the only way you can expect a purple drive to support a single camera -- if it still does holds.
