Review on ๐Ÿ›ถ Hull-a-Port Thule Rooftop Kayak Carrier by Mark Harris

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Great luggage rack, but the straps provided were too short for my 34 " wide kayak.

The trunk itself is excellent. Easy to install, very stable and the design allows you to add another set of racks for two kayaks on the roof. The only downside for me is the straps that came with the rack were too short for my 34 inch tandem kayak. The straps are only 9 feet long so I was only 2-3 feet short. Maybe my kayaks are bigger (?) but I can't see how the straps that come with them will fit any 34 inch kayak. Unfortunately, Thule doesn't make longer straps, so you'll need to invest in longer straps if you have a large kayak. In case you want to find out if the included straps are long enough for you. The length from the inner base of the carrycot J to the inside of the carrycot top bar is 16 inches. So add the width and height of your kayak plus the side width of the tote bag minus 16 inches of the tote bag length. Now multiply x2 as you will need to double the straps from the carrycot bar (so for me it was 34"W + 12"H + 18" (i.e. 34"W - 16" from the stand) = 10ft 8 "Minimum overall length just to wrap around the other side and reach the bottom. But also be aware you'll need a strap to buckle, tighten and tie a knot. 12 feet is what I need .

Pros
  • Angled design provides stability and compact design.
Cons
  • Available in black only.
