Disclaimer: I'm new to setting up a wireless network for my computer. I bought a WRT400N router and a Linksys WMP600N wireless adapter. I am currently using XP on a computer that is over 7 years old. Setting up and installing the router was very easy. The instructions couldn't be simpler as they include diagrams of what and where to connect the wires. Basically, download the CD and follow the instructions. After my router was set up, I checked the wired and wireless connections on my PS3, which was in a separate room about 50 feet from me. Both connections were good. According to PS3, the connection (signal) speed was about 90%. I believe the PS3 uses 802.11g and then proceeded to install the wireless adapter on my computer. Same simple process: insert the CD and follow the instructions. However, this time the result was not as expected. The wireless connection to my computer was not detected. The PS3 was still connecting, so I assumed the wireless adapter wasn't installed properly. Several failed reinstall attempts forced me to call Linksys Technical Support. The Linksys technician told me to double check some settings and try reinstalling a couple of times to no avail. He concluded that he could remotely access my computer and fix the problem, but for a $9.99 service fee. I said "no thanks" and told him the extra charge is a joke as I have already purchased their product but they can't help me install it? He just said if he couldn't turn on my wireless connection there would be no charges. Angry at this point I decided to start over. I reinstalled the router from the CD. Upon completion, my wireless connection to my computer was activated! It was easy, but tedious and time-consuming. Currently, my 802.11n connection is "great" since the router is only 20 feet from the computer. My PS3 charges almost 100%. The router seems to get stronger over time. I've had him for two weeks now. Again, this is my first time trying to connect my computer wirelessly, so I may have done something wrong. But I haven't found a Linksys guide that recommends the correct procedure for installing a new router and wireless adapter at the same time. I hope this helps anyone who is having trouble installing their wireless router and wireless adapter.
