Review on ๐Ÿšฒ BELL Night Trail Bike Light Kit by Cory Spence

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great value for money, best in sport

For the price this light is hard to beat. Over the years I've used about twenty different bike lights from brands like Cateye, Cygolite and Planet Bike. While some were significantly better than the Bell, they were also three to ten times more expensive. If you don't mind the bulk of four AA batteries on your handlebars and have less than twenty bucks to spare, the Bell Night Trail Bike Light is the way to go. The real downside to case batteries is the danger they create. when the body is displaced during impact. While this didn't happen to the Bell light, it did to the Planet Bike light as it rode through traffic in New York City. The distraction was extremely dangerous. Losing half the batteries wasn't fun either. Luckily, the Bell light has a solid body that slides the top half back to open. This makes it virtually immune to frontal and vertical impacts. However, the internal latches never give a clear indication that it is closed. Rather, you should push the top down while pushing forward until you can move it further. Like the headlight, the taillight compares well to more expensive headlights. Like competing products, it has different flashing modes as well as an "always-on" setting. Thanks to the lens design, the light exits at the sides and top. This side lighting is crucial for city traffic. Build quality is good, but not on par with $100 lighting systems. But here, too, the advantage of this device lies in the overall costs. Some of the nicer features include a bright xenon bulb paired with pathetic LEDs that can blink for hours. Unlike some MR11 based lamps (parabolic rail lamps), the lens assembly has two ports on the right and left side. As a result, the light is scattered perpendicular to the roadway, which is very practical in traffic jams. These features combined with a very modest price make this flashlight a great choice for those who are on a budget. Pros Value Brightness Combination of LED and Xenon modes Decent build quality Side lighting on headlight Cons Questionable design of battery box (top half of headlight) Bulky LEDs could be brighter
