Revainrating 5 out of 5

Burns rapidly until it becomes blazing.

At first I was very impressed. Later less. Sturdy metal body, solid connector, included USB-C cable is short and nothing fancy but gets the job done. Connected to M1 Mac Mini for testing. Formatted HFS+ drive. Blackmagic Disk Speed Test and AmorphousDiskMark were used for comparison. Initial/highest results were first obtained with the Thunderbolt 3 port. Later (and slower) results were tested with a 10Gb/s port. As you can see from the benchmarks, the 512GB PQI port matched (and in some cases exceeded) the advertised speeds in initial testing. Fabulous. However, it is damn hot here (about 90ยฐ outside and over 80ยฐ inside) and the metal housing of the PQI quickly got hot. At this point, I noticed progressively slower performance. The initial drop was around 250 MB/s; not painfully slow, though. disappointingly slow. Switched to 10 Gbit/s port. The device then reached speeds of around 350 MB/s. I believe the dip correlates to how hot the SSD gets during testing/use. Usage, especially in hotter months/conditions I would suggest looking elsewhere. 4 stars for what it can do in ideal conditions.

Pros
  • It's amazing
Cons
  • Embarrassing
