Review on Toshiba DR420 DVD Recorder Black by Kevin Mitchell

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It's not cheap. Simply Affordable

PRO: The DR420 DVD/Recorder is one of the best electronics purchases I've ever made. User friendly, it's back to basics. When it comes to audio/video equipment, simple is best. The DR420 has a slim design and is less than 2 inches thick. I also have the DR410 and like it a little better than the 420. The 410 has external control buttons and the 420 is behind the drop down door. All functions are accessible via the two A/V RCA jacks on the front, which is a nice touch. The rear RCA connections are again basic, and there aren't many of them (okay). The quality of the captured image is A+. You can shoot with virtually no loss of image sharpness. I haven't pushed the audio spectrum to comment on audio playback, but it seems fine. It would be great if it had an audio to mp3 converter to rip audio from music broadcasts to play in the car, but that's too much to ask. If Toshiba can add an HD to the DR410, I will definitely buy CONS: Fairly noisy CD in/out tray Remote button names are a little small and cluttered Specific order for setup/tracks and main menu confusing . When you think you've spotted the pattern, it may seem to change somewhere, but with a little patience it will eventually work. Conclusion: PROS - price, recording quality, easy connection CONS - cluttered remote control, small writing on all buttons, small buttons, noise in the tray.

Pros
  • Upconversion to 1080P
Cons
  • So far so good
