This product isn't much for a 20 gallon tank I bought this for my 5 gallon system but I also have bio Beads to help with bacterial load. If you're considering this for an aquarium, fine, but remember that the more surface area the better, so get three or four boxes for a larger tank. For my 5 gallon rig system I'm building I use this plus two bags of biobeads plus lots of bacteria. I also use Seiryu stones in my tank to grow bacteria on them. Use the Fluval Biological Accelerator to speed up your aquarium cycle. This product packs a punch, so stock up.
