Review on πŸ“· SunwayFoto GH-02 Gimbal Head - Enhanced Stability for Perfect Panoramic Shots by Sheppard Priest

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Looks like a fifty dollar head.

I wanted to try this brand after hearing good reviews. Unfortunately, it looks like these reviews were only done to increase affiliate link sales. None of the good reviews were accurate. On first use, one of the screws broke trying to release the vertical tension. The head came off and a few loose pieces came out. I'm sorry, it's game over for me. I have no confidence installing a $10,000 rig on this head. The instructions speak of large handles, but nothing about small handles. Either the big or small knob seems to create tension and eventually lock the axle. Not sure why there are two. Vertical tension never relaxed - it was always a little tight, so moving the lens vertically took some effort. The pivot axis rotated freely as it should. And it doesn't snap tightly enough to be tripod mounted. Additionally, if you're using a typical 600mm lens with it, you'll lose full vertical movement due to the sliding plate hitting your head. The panel must be cut in half to completely clear the head. I suspect they haven't tested it. The locking pin seems to be a good feature when mounting a lens. However, the pin sticks out at the top and can cause nasty wounds if you are not careful. In general, the processing is fine. There are ugly casting marks on the underside, covered with a thin anodized layer. The handles are well blasted, maybe a little too big. The included case is basically unusable. Good for delivery, but will not be useful in everyday life. Overall, this head doesn't seem to cost more than $50 if it doesn't break the first time you use it.
