Let me start by saying that this scale is amazing and has helped me a lot. I am partially blind and the speaking function of this scale does not allow me to ask someone to read the scale for me. The voices used to say the weight are very clear. This scale is very durable and looks beautiful in any bathroom thanks to the transparent glass and metal surface. This scale also reads the weight in 4 languages (English, French, Spanish and German) in kilograms or pounds. To me, at least, this scale seems very accurate and mimics every weight I've gained in all previous doctor visits. For those who need to read this scale, the numbers are large and easy to read. Batteries (3 AAA) are included with the scale, the scale is well packaged. I would recommend this scale to anyone looking for a talking scale. Update (3 Aug 2014): I'm updating this to make some additions to my previous review and to update the effectiveness of this article after heavy use by a variety of people. As someone else pointed out, this scale reads very quickly. The voice is slightly more delayed, but picks up the data originally registered. This means that if you're constantly adjusting on the scale, you won't get accurate readings by just relying on the voice feature. Getting off the scale and getting back on will help solve this problem. If this scale is being used by someone who is very unstable, another person may be able to hold it in place or hold onto a pole, sink, etc. while standing on the scale. Also, these scales don't register 1lb or less, this is less the scale's fault than the fact that the floor scales don't accurately measure 1lb or less, so many companies make sure their scales show an error, and didn't testify. Weight range they know is very imprecise. Additionally, I have gotten numerous people to use these scales to better understand their accuracy in addition to my own weight. It works very accurately until you are within 5 pounds of the scale's maximum weight limit. At this point the weights just go around or give an error. Again, this is not necessarily a scale error. Household scales are designed for maximum weight. Rather than subjecting someone to injury because the scale is overloaded past its maximum and the scale breaks/cracks, the scale is set to increase the likelihood of failure (same as the minimum level, but for different reasons). Typically this setting is between a maximum of 5 and 10 pounds and this can further depend on the materials the scale is made of. I hope my expanded review is helpful to others, and I'm sure everyone will be perfectly happy with this scale (especially at the price Revain is offering) as long as the recommendations I and others have mentioned are heeded . Update (4 August 2014): Unfortunately, Taylor does not offer an electronic manual for this scale. However, after contacting Taylor directly, I asked the rep to advise that this would be a valuable suggestion as it's likely that people with visual impairments are more likely to order talking scales. It goes without saying that not all visually impaired people can read the instructions. He said I would be contacted by a member of their product development team and was a little confused as to why this feature hadn't been suggested yet. However, Taylor's customer service is wonderful! Very short wait times if you have to wait and very fast, full service. What I will do is offer a quick installation guide for this scale. It's not difficult, but I know how frustrating it is not being able to see the manual that came with the product and asking someone for help with such a simple task. Step 1. Insert the batteries (included) into the battery compartment (top center on the back of the scale). Step 2: Make sure the scale is on a flat, firm surface. Carpet is unsuitable for almost every scale (unless specifically noted) as an unbalanced surface will introduce errors in accuracy. Step 3 Step on the scale and you will hear the weight in pounds in a standard female English voice. Step 4 Step off the scale. You hear "Ready to go," followed by two short beeps after a moment. The scale will turn off automatically a moment later. Step 5. To change the volume, turn the dial on the top right of the front of the scale and stand on the scale again to listen. Repeat this step until the desired volume is reached. Step 6. To change the language and weight measurement, press the solid button in the upper right corner in front of the scale once and then stand on the scale to hear the language and weight measurement change. Repeat this step until you get the tongue/weight measurement you want. English, French, Spanish and German are offered and all but voiced English offer kg instead of pounds. Also, all voices are female. I hope this was helpful to those who needed guidance.
