I was looking for a way to mount an Oregon GPS on my truck dashboard while geocaching. I also wanted a permanent mount, this mount fitted the bill. The interface area on the back of the mount where it connects to the GPS is quite narrow, but I believe that's how it was designed as a marine mount. For my needs I wanted the GPS to be easy to remove so I took 2 small flat files, a heading and a thin file and then removed a small amount of material from the mount rail area until it joined seamlessly. Now, when geocaching, getting in and out of the car, I can easily disassemble the device. While the GPS now slides in and out easily, it still doesn't fall out of the mount on its own, there is a latch on the underside of the mount that prevents this. I chose this mount because I didn't plan on connecting the device to a power cable, I power the GPS from the batteries in the device. If you need car battery power, check out other mounts available or buy a car power cable for your GPS.
