eyes at the back of the head.

On my SeaFox 248 Commander. I like it. I'll get another one for the front. When towing, it helped me to see the rear engine placement via the Active Captain app.

Pros
  • Not cheap but decent
Cons
  • Hard to say

You need the latest software to sync your chartplotter

The camera installs and works as described. I use it as a backup camera on my boat, synced to a Garmin 742 chartplotter. I had to update my chartplotter software before I could sync the camera. Very wide field of view of the camera. Really helps when reversing into a tight miss. I installed a camera on the underside of the radar arch on my 30ft Speedcruiser. Works perfectly

Pros
  • Feels good
Cons
  • Can do damage

Not working

Tried two cameras. I had problems both times. The first was connected to the chartplotter but then stopped working. The second didn't even connect to the chartplotter. I tried Garmin Help for the first time. The response was slow and the replies were useless.

Pros
  • Marine GPS chartplotter
Cons
  • Slightly torn

Unreliable WiFi

If you want a real camcorder, use the other options. Failed to pair with my Garmin plotter, then after 15 tries it connected but the video stuttered, stuttered and froze. I called Garmin, tried updating the firmware but to no avail. I have a $100 wired camera that works great for 1/3 the price.

Pros
  • Marine electronics
Cons
  • Some bugs

Difficult to connect, the battery is always on.

Difficult setup time as the instructions were wrong but the support from Garmin was great. The instructions say continuous current, but there are rechargeable batteries. The cameras will take some time to connect each time the MFD is powered on. Very expensive for the camera tech but only one device to connect to Garmin displays so go for it. The camera works well with two views and an infrared option.

Pros
  • Car Electronics
Cons
  • Out of fashion
