On my first ride with this pannier I had a change of clothes (shirt, socks and trousers) on one side and my computer on the other. The side with the clothes got caught in the spokes of the rear wheel, leaving a small hole in the pocket. I had to stop and find a stick to keep the bad straight so it didn't hit the spokes. It has some stiffness built in to keep the bag from flexing on its own at the spokes, but it stops a few inches from the back (the only spot that really needs reinforcement. I glued it inside, so that it stays stiff and doesn't slip around on the spokes.
